The Answers
Purchase of subscriptionsBack To Top

We are more than an online middleman. We have a growing network of physical retail stores that puts both a face and an element of certainty behind a transaction that is otherwise devoid of personality. We give you phone numbers to call if mags are late and we have our own warehouse through which we fulfil a large proportion of subscriptions ourselves rather than simply acting as an agent for publishers.

Also, mag nation means personality, an amazing range of mainstream and niche titles, and a store environment (both bricks and mortar and online) which has been designed specifically to let you browse to your heart's content.

Ooohhhh... good question. Others might give you a generic answer, but the reality is that "it depends". We will give you the full answer because we think you are smart enough to appreciate it...

First of all, you can rest assured that unless your magazine is an annual or bi-annual publication (meaning it comes out only once or twice a year) you won't receive the current issue. This is a good thing... it means that you will not receive a duplicate copy if you already have bought one off the shelves.

For mags that come out weekly, fortnightly, monthly and bi-monthly, you should generally allow 4-8 weeks for your subscription to start. Therefore, if your mag comes out monthly, you should probably receive the next issue. If it comes out fortnightly, you might have to wait between 2-4 issues.

If your mag comes out quarterly or three times a year, we will wait until the next issue arrives before sending it out. If a quarterly mag came out on the 1st of Jan, and you subscribe on the 15th of Jan, we will send you your first copy when the next issue comes out on the 1st of April. We do this simply to ensure you do not get any duplicate copies.

Have a look at the answer to the question above.

We are one of the few websites in the world that can answer this question with a qualified yes. It will depend on the individual title. Where we are able to offer you single copy purchases, you will see this option mentioned on the magazine title page and you will be able to choose between an ongoing subscription and buying just one issue.

We love magazines but the magazine industry sucks! Most back copies are pulped and recycled. Some publishers will keep their back copies, but the only way to be sure is to call them. We hate this part of the industry. We would love to be able to easily source back copies. We do keep some back copies of certain specialty design and international magazines (give us a call or check the 'back issues' category in the land of mags if this might be relevant to you), but the majority of local and mainstream titles requires you to go to the publisher direct.

Wow - another good question. It depends on the publisher. Some publishers have a policy to include them, some do not. You will need to check the policy of the publisher when it comes to Australian magazines. For international magazines, most of the copies sent for export do not include the free gift. However, occasionally we do get them. Rest assured that for any international magazines where the free gift does make it out to this part of the world, we include it for you.

For any international magazine, it is clearly indicated where the magazine is a Sea Freight copy. If the words Sea Freight don't appear in the title of an international magazine, you will receive the latest Air Freighted copy.

What is the difference you ask?

An Air Freight magazine arrives in Aus/NZ by plane. It is the most recent edition and the freight cost to get it here is higher than if sent by boat (surprise surprise this is called Sea Freight). Therefore, Sea Freight is not as expensive as Air Freight, but it will not be the latest copy either. It will normally be one to two months past issue date in its country of origin. This is what you would buy in most retail stores. The Air Freight copies are for the magazine addicts like us who want the latest issues right now!

It depends on how quickly the overseas publisher is able to get us their stock, but it usually takes 2-3 weeks before overseas titles hit our fair shores.

Receipt of SubscriptionBack To Top

Many publishers, especially for niche titles, can often run late for an issue and make it up on the following issue. The more infrequent the magazine, the more likely you will find some variability in timing. If your magazine is a monthly, the timing will be more dependable. Make sure you keep your purchase receipt, as it has a phone number to call if your mag has not arrived. Don't forget that this will also be emailed to you, so you should be able to retrieve it if required. If you cannot find this purchase receipt, log into your mag nation account. You will find your subscriptions and the fulfillment contact details for you to call.

Yes it does.

Very discreetly. They are packaged in non-transparent paper.

Yes, you can.

RenewalsBack To Top

An email will be sent to you as your last issue is being mailed out, letting you know that your subscription needs to be renewed. You will be able to click on a link that will take you back into your shopping cart to re-subscribe to your favourite mag.

You should renew your subscription via the email link mentioned above. As we will only send you a renewal email as your last issue is shipped, you can rest assured that you will not receive a duplicate copy.

Managing SubscriptionsBack To Top

To cancel your subscriptions you must contact the publisher directly. For local Australian and New Zealand titles, the publisher's name and phone number is provided in the confirmation email for each purchase. Standard practise is to refund monies for the remaining issues in your subscription at the time of cancellation, but each publisher has slightly different policies, so you will need to ask them.

Please be aware that for International magazines NO refunds are available.

You simply log into your mag nation account, and you change your address via the "edit my details" link. Any subscriptions that mag nation sends you directly will be re-routed to your new address. If you have subscriptions to Australian and New Zealand magazines that are being fulfilled by local publishers, you will be reminded of their contact details and you will be prompted to call them to advise of your new address. Most of the Australian and New Zealand magazines will also have a change of address form each time they are mailed out to you.

For any international magazines or other titles that mag nation is sending to them, they can call us directly on (Aus) 03 9663 5817 of (NZ) 09 366 6125 to change their address. For Australian and New Zealand titles being fulfilled by local publishers, they should call the publisher on the contact number we provided the original purchaser (sent by email and also on the purchase confirmation screen). The easiest way to change address is to look at the front cover of the mailing form sent with each magazine, as this normally has a change of address form on it. If all else fails, you can give us a call and we will tell you who to contact.

Purchase of BooksBack To Top

Most books don't fit in the letter box, so we send them via courier to you. This means that you can't use a PO Box for books. This delivery cost is not an additional extra, but is already included in the price that is quoted to you on our website.

Purchase of StationaryBack To Top

Most small stationery issues provide no problems re postage. However, some larger, more expensive stationery items can get ruined in the post and with these items, we will send them by courier. Delivery cost is not an additional extra, but is already included in the price that is quoted to you on our website.

Purchase of T-ShirtsBack To Top

By courier. Without exception. This means that you can't use a PO Box for t-shirts. This delivery cost is not an additional extra, but is already included in the price that is quoted to you on our website.

Yes, we do. When you put a t-shirt into your shopping cart, you will first be required to select a size via a drop down menu.

How could you ask such a question? They are the originals. Unlike many online t-shirt sites that take the t-shirt file from the designer and re-print it onto a standard t-shirt, we only sell t-shirts that have originally been sourced from the designer themselves. They are their own harshest critics, so if the quality can meet their approval, then we are happy to accept it. No cheap generics here.

We are unfortunately unable to accept t-shirts as returns. Therefore, please choose carefully.

Purchasing as a gift for someone elseBack To Top

You bet. Subscriptions make a great gift because the recipient will be reminded of you across an entire year. Our books, stationery and t-shirts also make wonderful pressies because they are so damn cool!

Yes we can. You will have the option to add in a gift card in the shopping cart prior to proceeding to check out. You can elect to either have the gift card sent to your address (so you can personally give it to the recipient) or we can send it directly to them. Simply provide us with your message for the gift card and let us know where to send it ' we do the rest.

If I purchase a gift for someone else, will they get advanced notification of it, or will it be a surprise once the product arrives?

It depends. First, if you do not purchase a gift card, then it will be a complete surprise unless you tell them beforehand. We will confirm the subscription with you by email, but the recipient will not get notified by us. We obviously need their postal details so your gift can be sent to them, but we will not communicate with them directly - you are our customer, not them. In the case of magazine subscriptions however, we do encourage you to notify the recipient of the fulfillment contact details (we provide this to you when you purchase the gift subscription), just in case a mag is late or if they change their address. Then they know who to notify.

If you do purchase a gift card and elect for it to be sent directly to the recipient, it still depends. Most t-shirt, stationery and book items are immediately in stock, and we therefore send out any gift card along with the product. However, many magazine subscriptions and some out of stock books might take a few weeks to start up. In this case, we will send the gift card to the recipient prior to their product arriving.

other general purchasing questionsBack To Top

After purchasing a subscription, you will get a Success Screen that you can print. It will have your subscription details, as well as contact details for if you change address. We will also email you these details so you have it on record. The Success Screen when printed also forms a tax receipt if this is relevant to you.

Yes - we quote you one final price inclusive of delivery. Our price is also inclusive of GST.

Be careful of websites that have the words "ex GST" or something similar in fine print... your actual cost will be higher than what they claim.

We can now answer this with a qualified yes. Some magazines do not allow this via our website, but with most magazines, we can have them sent anywhere in the world. You will know if we can't delivery globally as the 'Rest of World' pricing option will not be available where this is the case.

Yes!

MembershipBack To Top

To purchase from us, we need your details so we know who to bill and send to. Also, we create an account for you so you can look at what mags you have subscribed to, and most importantly, you can access contact details for those magazine subscriptions if you change address.

Writing ReviewsBack To Top

Click on the link called "write a review" - you will find this on the profile page for each individual product.

Because as much as we hate to admit it, there are some silly people out there who like to use bad words like poo and bum on legitimate websites.
